The purpose of the Certified Production Technician (CPT) program is to recognize through certification individuals who demonstrate mastery of the core competencies of manufacturing production at the front-line (entry-level through front-line supervisor) through successful completion of certification assessments. The CPT program raises the level of performance of production workers to both assist individuals in finding higher-wage jobs and help employers ensure their workforce increases the company’s productivity and competitiveness. The CPT program consists of four individual certificate modules: Safety; Quality Practices & Measurement; Manufacturing Processes & Production; and Maintenance Awareness.

Course Learning Outcomes

Candidates must earn the first four certificates to receive the full CPT certification.  Individuals demonstrate their understanding of the core skills and knowledge through assessments based upon Manufacturing Skill Standards Council’s (MSSC) industry-defined, nationally-validated skill standards. This course will be held in hybrid model with online instruction supported by in-person classroom “hands on” practical lab experiences.

The course is offered by SUNY Schenectady’s Office of Workforce Development and Community Education, in partnership with Key Bank and the Center for Economic Growth.
