Summer Audio Institute

Welcome to the Summer Audio Institute

Monday-Thursday, July 15-18, 2024, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

Over the course of four days students will learn the basics of Pro Tools audio recording software, participate in a live recording session in SUNY Schenectady’s Vianna-Brignola Recording Studio, and mix and master a final recording project.

Specifics include:

  • Individual computer instruction on Pro Tools
  • Work in live recording sessions using state-of-the-art technology
  • Participation in mixing and mastering processes
  • Camp takes place at the School of Music, 78 Washington Ave., Schenectady, NY

Led by faculty members Sten Isachsen & Jordan Demarest

  • SUNY Schenectady School of Music Faculty
  • Noted recording producers and engineers
  • Pro Tools certified instructors

* Enrollment for the Audio Camp is strictly limited to 15 students.
* Students must be ages 14-18 (entering ninth grade in fall 2024 or have just graduated in 2024).
* Applications will be accepted on a first-received basis.

Tuesday

Intro to Pro Tools Recording and mixing software

  • Mastering basics
  • Bouncing down a mix and exporting

Wednesday

Intro to signal path in Studio 208

  • Navigating the D-Command mixing console
  • Setting up mics and signal path from live room into control room
  • Recording into Pro Tools

Thursday

Intro to signal path in Studio 208

  • Recording song with students
  • Recording brass ensemble

 

How to Sign Up and Cost

Register for the Summer Audio Institute

  • The CRN for Audio Institute is 60280, you will need to include this on the registration page.
  • You will receive a confirmation email with information on how to pay upon registration.

Cost: $258 per student
Deadline to sign up in June 15, 2024
* Enrollment for the Audio Camp is strictly limited to 15 students.
* Students must be entering ninth grade or above to register.
* Applications will be accepted on a first-received basis.

Soloist with Ithaca College String Quartet, SUNY Albany Orchestra. Current member of the string trio Musicians of Ma'alwyck and guitarist for Albany-based singer, Motherjudge, and Nashville recording artist Bob Bates. Performance producer/recording engineer at Bender Studios. Former faculty member, College of St. Rose, SUNY Albany.
