Supply Chain Management is more critical to the world economy than ever before, with immediate employment available in most sectors including chip fabrication, renewable energy production, chemical and pharmaceutical manufacturing, textiles, automotive assembly, and thousands more industries dealing in planning, material sourcing, production and shipping of goods and services.

The Supply Chain Management core programs are fully online eight-week sessions. This convenient format allows students to pursue their academic goals while balancing life’s responsibilities.

Courses are designed to help students “learn by doing.” Hands-on projects will place your ideas into real-world scenarios, showcasing good business acumen on the training ground for professionals throughout the world.  Success is achieved through empowering students to develop their skills through innovative, experience-based education.

Students will receive online instruction in 15 credits of core global supply chain management courses including transportation, purchasing and logistics, inventory control and warehousing, and operations management, with an additional 48 credits in the areas of business, liberal arts, accounting, computer systems, and management. The 63-credit degree program responds to current and projected employment needs in this field. The degree prepares graduates for entry-level positions in supply chain management and provides core educational offerings, combined with the job-related work experience that potential employers are seeking.

Supply Chain Management A.A.S. Curriculum:

The SUNY Schenectady Supply Chain Management major requires 48 credit hours of foundational coursework in business, liberal arts, operations, international business, and 15 credit hours of core curriculum courses towards the full 63-credit requirement for the Associates in Applied Science degree in Supply Chain Management.

Core Curriculum

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This course introduces students how to deliver the right product/service to the right customer at the right time, right location, and the right price. This course provides the fundamental concepts and principles needed to succeed in manufacturing and/or service operations.  Topics covered include productivity, project management, forecasting, managing quality, location and layout planning, supply-chain, inventory management, optimization, queuing, and simulation.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This course introduces the importance of effective inventory control and warehousing operations as a potential major source of competitive advantage to an organization.  Topics include the basics of production planning and control, forecasting, the fundamentals of inventory management, the physical inventory and warehouse management functions, effective distribution systems, and how operating planning and control systems relate to just-in-time and lean production.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This course explores the role of transportation as a critical link in global supply chain management. Topics covered include an examination of the external forces impacting supply chain management, the various modes of transportation and their current operations, and the various critical transportation management issues and challenges facing today’s supply chain managers.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This course introduces the role of purchasing and procurement in supply chain management. Topics include building supplier relationships, sourcing, price theory, procurement, production, quality assurance, inventory, warehousing, logistics and customer relations. In addition, the course introduces standard policies and operating procedures, negotiation techniques, planning organization and the legal aspects of purchasing. The ethical conduct associated with purchasing and procurement functions is also studied. 

 

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This course introduces the dynamic nature of supply chain management (SCM) for global products and services. Topics covered include developing and executing global sourcing strategies, the primary process flows of SCM, how/why superior customer service depends on high quality products, processes and services. Other topics include integrated replenishment, inventory management techniques, lean logistics, performance measurements, information management and integrated e-commerce technology deployed in a highly competitive global market.

 

Microcredential – Global Business and Transportation

SUNY Schenectady also offers short industry-focused credentials designed to provide in-demand skills that reflect the “shop floor” needs of industry. These courses are focused on a specific professional career and can lead to an initial or advanced degree.
