Lorena Harris, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor in Biology at SUNY Schenectady County Community College. Prior to becoming an Assistant Professor, she led the CSTEP program for eight years. Dr. Harris is a member of the NY STEAM Girls Collaborative, NGCP (National Girls Collaborative Project), AAAS (American Association for the Advancement of Science), APACS (Association for Program Administrators of CSTEP and STEP) and ACS (American Chemical Society). She is the 2024 Dr. John Staley Award for Outstanding Service; and 2019 Margaret Ashida STEM Leadership Award recipient, STEM role model, and mom.
Recent Work
Microbes of the Vale: A biochemical, microbial, and molecular biology analysis of
water microbes from the Vale reservoir.
Using Molecular Biology techniques to determine if specific genetic mutations or epigenetic
changes have taken place since the last data collection and if the changes have had
an effect on the ecosystem. This research project has been possible to the support
of NYSED Grant Funded Program CSTEP and NSF Grant SUNY LSAMP.
