Eileen was a Professor of English at SUNY Schenectady before being appointed Interim Dean in August 2020, and Dean in December 2021. Prior to moving to upstate New York, she lived in Driftwood, Texas, and earned an ABD in English from The University of Texas at Austin, where she studied poetics, especially early modern poetry. She also focused her studies on Shakespeare and on Rhetoric. In addition to the scholarly work she performed at UT, she also served as managing editor of several UT journals: Praxis: A Writing Center Journal (on which she now serves as a member of the Editorial Review Board), and Bat City Review. In addition, she served as Editorial Fellow for Texas Studies in Literature and Language.

Eileen teaches poems and short stories and plays. She also teaches honors courses in diverse topics such as Banned Books and Shakespeare. And, of course, she teaches writing. Her current research interests focus on women’s conception of friendship in the transcendental movement (an interest that grew out of her NEH Fellowship). When she is not teaching or researching or writing, Eileen watches a lot of Red Sox games. Most weekends, she and her husband, Lewis, and dog, Frankie, can usually be found at “the dome,” a tiny geodesic dome in the woods near Cooperstown, where she and Lewis, cook, dance, hike and breathe.
