At SUNY Schenectady we not only value diversity, we embrace it. We not only respect one another, we pride ourselves on the dynamic exchange of differing viewpoints that foster growth in our students and other members of our College community.

We are inclusive. Everyone is welcome. And just as we work every single day to empower our students, we dedicate ourselves to strengthening our community as well.

Now, we draw upon this strength of spirit and conviction to deal with the tremendous sadness, frustration, anger, and fear that so many are feeling. As we continue to experience the unimaginable effects of the COVID-19 crisis, which has impacted members of our black and brown communities most disproportionately, along with the recent events in Minneapolis, we are confronted with the impact of systemic racism.

In the face of all of this, let us collectively show our resolve and strength to shine a light on injustice, and to spread a message of unity and peace. Let us work together to find solutions to end this injustice and needless suffering.

At SUNY Schenectady, we are committed to providing lifelong learning. “Never…stop… learning.” During this time we can all learn from one another and we can offer ways to find resolutions…together.

In the words of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., “Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly. I can never be what I ought to be until you are what you ought to be. This is the interrelated structure of reality.” We need to listen to those who are crying out for equality and fairness. We need to raise one another up and look out for one another…for it is only then that we can achieve something greater than ourselves.

Thank you, and please remember: We Are ALL Stronger Together.
