Next week, the Musicians of Ma’alwyck, ensemble in residence at the College and directed by Ann-Marie Barker Schwartz, will bring the music of the Zoellner Quartet to life in a special program in the Taylor Auditorium. The Zoellner Quartet toured throughout the United States in the early 1900s and helped stimulate public interest in classical music. During their illustrious career they performed for The King and Queen of the Belgians, Theodore Roosevelt, Albert Einstein, Helen Keller, and the Cheyenne Indians. In addition to the performance by the Musicians of Ma’alwyck, the program will feature The Honourable Alexandra Foley, who is the great-granddaughter of Joseph Zoellner, Sr. who formed The Zoellner Quartet.

“When your family used to own an English country estate from the 17th-19th century, and your grandfather and great-grandfather were friends with Albert Einstein, Charlie Chaplin, and Walt Disney you’re going to have some great stories,” said Dr. Christopher Brellochs, Dean of the School of Music. “SUNY Schenectady is in for a treat when Alexandra Foley shares these family stories alongside a live string quartet performance of the music her grandfather performed over 100 years ago.”

The performance will feature Ann-Marie Barker Schwartz, director, violin, and School of Music Faculty member, and André Laurent O’Neil, violoncello and School of Music Faculty member, with guest artists Fritz Krakowski, violin, and Katrina Smith, viola.
