SUNY Schenectady responded to Ellis Medicine’s plea to the community for essential
masks, protective suits, and gloves to help safeguard healthcare workers on the front-line
of the Coronavirus pandemic. Hospitals like Ellis Hospital and medical facilities
locally and nationally are experiencing a shortage of proper medical equipment to
protect medical workers from the virus.
SUNY Schenectady had personal protection equipment, or P.P.E., left-over from its School of Hotel, Culinary Arts, and Tourism and science laboratories since all in-person instruction and labs have been transitioned to online learning due to COVID-19. The College begins virtual instruction March 30 following an extended spring break. A total of 300 surgical masks, 40 Tyvek suits, and 100 boxes of gloves have been delivered to Ellis Hospital in Schenectady. “It’s important that we support one another, especially our healthcare professionals who are working directly with those affected by the Coronavirus,” said Dr. Steady H. Moono, President of SUNY Schenectady. “We are able to provide equipment to help them during this critical time, and we know that we are all stronger together.”

this generous donation of essential protective equipment from SUNY Schenectady,” said
Marcy Steiner, Vice President/Executive Director of The Foundation for Ellis Medicine.
“Donations such as this help to ensure the continued safety of our clinical care teams
as they fight the spread of the COVID-19 virus. We are honored to serve our community
and are thankful for partners like SUNY Schenectady for supporting us in return.”
Last week, SUNY Schenectady donated food to the Salvation Army of Schenectady and
YWCA NorthEastern NY from its Culinary Arts program and the SUNY Schenectady Convenience Store.
