Fall 2025 Semester Begins!
The Fall 2025 semester is well underway. We caught up with some students who shared what they're looking forward to about the semester.
Mother and son Cahtina Gamble and Malachi Gamble-Rogers in the School of Music.
Two Music majors, Cahtina Gamble and Malachi Gamble-Rogers, have already been playing music together for years. Cahtina, a vocalist, and her son Malachi, a drummer and percussionist, are both taking classes in the School of Music this fall.
“It’s like starting all over again, but I know I can achieve anything I put my mind to,” Cahtina shared. After teaching Special Education classes in the Albany City School District for nearly a decade, Cahtina lost full use of her hands and needed to make a career change. Following her passion for Music, she decided to enroll in the Music Certificate program and graduated in May 2025. She is now pursuing her degree in Performing Arts: Music.
Malachi, a 2025 graduate of Troy High School, started playing the drums and percussion instruments at the early age of 2. He was in both marching band and concert band during middle school and high school. When he was in 12th grade, he shadowed a Music student at the College.
“Ever since I shadowed Nico, a percussionist here, it really changed my point of view. It gave me nice vibes and a lot of positivity to come here. It’s a really good program and I’m enjoying it so far. With my Mom being here, it also gives me a little advantage because if I’m having some trouble with some work, she will be able to help me out and if she’s having any trouble with work, she can help me out. I look up to my Mom. She’s really kept me going for a long time. She inspires me to keep doing well, do what’s right, and become a better young man.”
Cahtina shared, “I like how the professors work with you and make you feel comfortable. They really motivate me. I feel like a flower blooming. I’m focusing on what I can do, not what I can’t do. With Malachi here, we can both support each other also.”
“This semester I am looking forward to completing my Health Studies Certificate and
getting more involved with activities on campus. I want to establish more social networking
with individuals in my field of study and have another great semester at SUNY Schenectady!”
— Savannah Bender, Health Studies
Savannah plans to graduate and transfer into a Radiologic Technology Program.
Career goal: “To be a successful Radiologist.”
“This semester I am interning in Career and Transfer Services with Dawn Jones. I look
forward to guiding students and supporting them in their educational journeys here.
This semester, I am eager to reconnect with Professor Doyle, whose guidance has inspired
me throughout my time at the College. As this is my final semester, it feels especially
significant. What once seemed far away has now arrived, and I feel a strong sense
of accomplishment as well as confidence in what I can achieve when I set my mind to
it.” — Lonny Davenport, Liberal Arts: Communication Concentration
Lonny plans to graduate this year and transfer to Siena College for his bachelor's
degree in Communications and Entrepreneurship.
Career goal: “I will have my own store brand in the future, selling baked goods, sauces,
and much more.”
