College Welcomes Alumni Back to Campus for All-Class Alumni Reunion

Alumni from the Class of 1971 (the College’s first graduating class) through the Class of 2025 returned to campus for a fun and festive All-Class Reunion on October 10. The day started off in the Lally Mohawk Room with alumni reconnecting and reminiscing about old times.

Vladia Boniewski, Emeritus, who was the longtime Director of Development at the College until her retirement in 2011, was a member of the first graduating class in 1971, earning her degree in Secretarial Science. “Returning to campus always brings back great memories,” she shared. “It was wonderful to reconnect with some of my favorite people and see all the new upgrades on campus.”
Jay Murphy was on the Men’s Baseball Team and Men’s Basketball Team during his two years at the College, and graduated in 1979 with his degree in Liberal Arts. “I’ve been active with the College’s Alumni Association," he said. "I looked forward to the reunion, meeting up with past teammates, friends and colleagues. Dom Cafarelli and John Leone, who were both at the reunion, were teammates of mine on both the basketball and baseball teams. We started the first fraternity at the College, along with Donny Handerhan, who also attended the reunion. For all of us who have remained friends, SCCC is where it all started almost 50 years ago.”
Wa’Kena Jackson graduated in 2017 with her degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management. “Two of my favorite things about the College were the hands-on learning and the professors,” she shared. She is pictured above with Tiombé Tatum '13, who is Chief of Staff at the College.
Grace Ferris ’23, who is an Information Processing Specialist I in the Begley Library, delivered an informative presentation about the history of the Hotel Van Curler, which became Elston Hall when the College first opened its doors in 1969. Tours of campus, including the Mobile Training Labs, Air Traffic Control Simulator, Career Closet, Casola Dining Room, Food Pantry, and eSports Arena, followed.
