The SUNY Schenectady Flight Team earned the Red Baron Team Sportsmanship Award during the National Intercollegiate Flying Association (NIFA) National SAFECON Flight Competition hosted by the University of Wisconsin last week. The award is presented to the team displaying the most sportsmanship-like conduct and behavior throughout the week of competition, voted on by all of the other teams. SUNY Schenectady pilots joined 450 pilots from 29 schools across the country during NIFA SAFECON 2019.
This is the fourth year that the College's Flight Team has gone to nationals. They qualified after winning the annual NIFA Regional Safety Conference (SAFECON) in October 2018, making them Regional Champions.
“It was a fantastic week of competition with an absolutely phenomenal team,” said Barbara Jones, Team Advisor and Associate Professor of Aviation Science.
