SUNY Schenectady will celebrate the Class of 2019 during the College’s 49th Commencement on Thursday, May 23, 2019, at 2 p.m. at Proctors in downtown Schenectady. Approximately 535 students will earn degrees and certificates within the following academic programs:

·       Division of Business, Criminal Justice and Law

·       Division of Liberal Arts

·       Division of Math, Science, Technology and Health

·       School of Hotel, Culinary Arts, and Tourism

·       School of Music

The Keynote Address will be delivered by Dion Flynn, SUNY Schenectady alumnus, comedian, and United States Army Veteran, best known as portraying Barack Obama (and others) on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Flynn was cited by O, The Oprah Magazine as “one of our favorite creative thinkers...” In addition to his voice-overs and on-camera national commercials, Flynn is guest starring in TruTv’s Jon Glaser Loves Gear and is a series regular on the new college loan debt repayment game show Paid Off. He also leads workshops in mental agility and team building with Fortune 500 clients and pioneered and conducts Improv Recovery Workshops for recovering addicts.

Remarks will also be made by Dr. Steady Moono, College President; Ann Fleming Brown, Chair of the Board of Trustees; Honorable Gary Hughes, Majority Leader for the Schenectady County Legislature; and Assistant Professor Kimberly Otis, Chair of the Academic Senate.

The Student Address will be given by Valerie Lenigk, President of the Student Government Association, who will earn her associate’s degrees in Mathematics/Science and Science.

“At Commencement we congratulate our students on all that they have accomplished as they earn their degrees and certificates and walk across the stage at Proctors to be recognized for all of their hard work and determination,” said Dr. Steady Moono. “We also look upon that day as a way to recognize the vision supporters - all of the friends, families, and professors - who have encouraged this year’s graduates on their educational journeys. We applaud the members of the Class of 2019 on this well-deserved milestone in their lives.”

“On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I want to commend this year’s graduates as they earn their degrees and certificates,” said Ann Fleming Brown, Chair of the Board. “We wish them much success as they transfer on for their bachelor’s degree or enter the workforce. They will build upon the excellent foundation of learning they received at SUNY Schenectady.”

The College will host a reception for graduates and their guests in the Lally Mohawk and Van Curler Rooms in Elston Hall immediately following the ceremony.
