Q: What should I to bring for camp?

A:  All attendees should bring their instruments, any music sent to them for camp, several pencils, a notebook to take notes during classes, a metronome for practice/rehearsal time, money if you plan to buy lunch on or off campus, and a solo piece or etude to perform during masterclass if you wish (not mandatory).

Q: Can I bring my cell phone?

A: Cell phones are allowed, but must be turned off during rehearsals and classes, unless there is an emergency or unless it’s during free time.

Q: Where is the entrance to the building?

A: The front entrance of the SUNY Schenectady School of Music has a security guard at all times. Students should make sure to sign in upon arrival. A sign-in sheet will be at the security desk. Students should enter through the front School of Music doors and proceed to the Band Room 139. Go straight when you walk in and when the hall ends, turn right and then follow the hall to the left. Room 139 is on the right.

Q: Where can I wait for my child?

A: You may pick up your child in the School of Music foyer. We have several comfortable chairs and a waiting area if you prefer to wait inside. Students should sign out at the security desk upon departure. Students must be picked up by an adult listed on the drop off/pick up. If there is an emergency during the week and your camper needs to be picked up by someone else, give us a call at 518-381-1231 ext. 5 and leave a voicemail if nobody picks up.

Q: How will I know where to go each day?

A: At the first meeting on Monday morning, students will be given a nametag and a detailed schedule with the times and locations of all events throughout the week.  All camp classes will take place in the music building. Rooms starting with a 1 are located on the first floor and rooms starting with a 2 will be located on the second floor of the new music wing. If a student is lost, they should ask the security guard or faculty member for guidance.

Q: Who will supervise school-aged students during camp?

A:  We will have 4 full-time coaches in addition to the School of Music security guard, and music secretary on hand. Students will be under our supervision and accounted for during each part of our day.

Q: What if my child is bullied at camp?

A: Bullying is not tolerated at SUNY Schenectady. We have a firm policy against all bullying. We work as a team to ensure that campers gain self-confidence, make new friends, and go home with great memories. Campers who are bullied may go home with negative memories about camp even if everything else about their camp experience was positive. Our camp staff takes all instances of bullying very seriously.

*** A camper may be expelled from camp without a refund for any disrupting behavior that endangers or detracts from the camp experience of other camp students.

Q: How can I follow my camper to see what’s going on at camp?

A: We will post updates and photos of our events throughout the week on the SUNY Schenectady School of Music Facebook page. Please “like” us on Facebook in order to stay in the loop.
