It’s the Start of the Spring Semester

The start of the Spring 2018 semester brings a healthy dose of anticipation and excitement. We asked two students about what they’re looking forward to about this semester and about their plans for life at SUNY SCCC and after they graduate.

What are you looking forward to about the Spring 2018 semester?

Spring 2018 is really exciting because I will be taking Production 2 with Rich Michaels (Adjunct Faculty member in the School of Hotel, Culinary Arts and Tourism). I am really looking forward to more hands-on work and digging a little deeper into the topics from Production 1. I’m also looking forward to the Fundamentals of Beer and Brewing course. It will be a chance to experiment with recipes and work with other students in the program.

What do you plan to do after your graduate next year and what is your career goal?

My plans for after graduation are far from set in stone. I thought I had a pretty clear idea of what I would pursue once I have my degree, but to be honest, the SUNY SCCC program has really opened my eyes to the countless opportunities available in the Beverage/Craft Beer field. Ideally, I would like to work in a production capacity in a brewery and try to gain as much experience as possible. Longterm, I would love to own a brewery of my own.

What do you like about attending SUNY SCCC?

For me, SUNY SCCC really is an awesome opportunity. Not only is the school affordable, but it’s easy to attend (close to the house, bus line, etc.). Perhaps most importantly, I think the SUNY SCCC program is really well thought out. The degree takes you through production, merchandising, marketing, and more so you really get a thorough look at the industry – crucial for people to find their ideal place after graduation. I also know that you cannot beat the faculty and staff. They really are committed to student success and as someone who made a massive upheaval in my life - that is really comforting.

What are you looking forward to about the Spring 2018 semester?

What I’m looking forward to the most for the 2018 semester is seeing my friends that I've made and I’m looking forward to taking the next set of classes to further my degree and education.

What do you plan to do after your graduate next year and what is your career goal?

My plan would be to graduate in 2019 from SUNY SCCC with my associate’s degree and to transfer to a four-year SUNY school like Oneonta or UAlbany. I would like to earn my master’s within the next five to six years in teacher education and possibly mathematics as well. I want to teach high school and see where it goes from there.

What do you like about attending SUNY SCCC?

SUNY SCCC is a small school and close to home for me, so it is easier for me to commute and work. They have that one-to-one teaching style that a lot of students need. I like the College because it’s a friendly environment where you can come to hang out with friends and further your education in a way that saves you money and time.
